Oahu North Shore Weather

We'll be staying on the North Shore in a few weeks. My newspaper only gives Honolulu weather. Am wondering how the winter has been there, as last year this time they were complaining of rain. How is February going this year? Are temps on the North Shore the same or lower (usually) than Honolulu? TIA

I lived about half way between the north shore and Pearl Harbor for three years and never noticed much temperature variation. What changes a lot is weather. It can be bright and sunny on the north shore, raining on the middle of the island, and sunny at Honolulu or any variation of those conditions. The other thing to be extremely careful of in the winter is surf conditions. They can have huge surf on the north shore and it can be dangerous if you are careless. Having said all that, I loved all parts of the island at all times of the year.

We were there in December and went to the North Shore twice. The weather was the same as Honolulu both times. Obviously, the surf was MUCH higher - in fact we were lucky enough to see a World surfing championship. Very cool. I think you will really like it there. I have no idea what the weather will be in February - but I sure do wish I was the one going to find out............I'm sorry, a little (maybe alot) jealousy showing through.....Enjoy!

Thanks. I keep wondering about that surf. I guess we're staying right smack dab on the ocean in a cottage. Any worries about being invaded by surf? I was born and raised in high desert and I guess that high booming sound is kind of frightening to me. Then again, the building hasn't been washed out to sea yet. I guess I'm hoping for some warm sunshine.

Like Debi, I'm envious. We go every winter, Dec or Jan, and love the low-key beauty. Our cottage is on the water @Sunset Point and the sound of surf is very soothing. As dwooddon says
you'll get a little mix of rain (mostly) at night, w/plenty of sun and always warm. Only when low pressure follows an unusually southern jet stream (rare) will there be poor weather for a day or two. Let you get back packing, enjoy!
