Oahu hotels

Me and my husband are going to Oahu early June and are looking for hotel recommendations on Waikiki. We stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki last visit and had a great stay but are open to other options. Also would appreciate any recommendations for great restaurants.
Thanks for your help!!

A few more details will help us all answer

Do you want to be right on the beach? In addition to the Sheraton there are only 6 other hotels that are directly beach-front on Waikiki. Something in a similar price range to Sheraton?

For restaurants - what kind of places are you looking for? Casual, outdoor, fine dining, what type of food?

@suze I would prefer to be beachfront on Waikiki and I'm will to spend a little more for hotel if it is worth it.

For restaurants I'm open to all. We will be doing a bunch of fine dining but I'm sure we will want to have some casual nights also. We eat pretty much anything but probably would like some good steak or fish restaurants.

<prefer to be beachfront on Waikiki>

Then these are your choices (there are only 7 hotels that are actually beachfront on Waikiki):

HHV
Halekulani
Moana Surfrider
Royal Hawaiian
Outrigger Waikiki
Outrigger Reef
Sheraton
(plus Hale Koa which is military only)

Suze has given you the complete list. Of those hotels, my favorite is the Moana Surfrider. I've also stayed at the Royal Hawaiian, which is lovely, but the windows are small, so you don't get the great views. There is a row of hotels across the street from the beach. Of those, I like the Hyatt the best.

There is also the Hilton Hawaiian Village, which "feels like" it has its own private beach. It's a large multi-building resort. The Ali'i tower is nice, as is the Rainbow tower.

HHV is a little bit longer walk (very do-able) to shopping and restaurants along Kalakaua Avenue.

I have stayed at the HHV in the Ali towers twice and it is a very nice hotel. Best pillows I have ever slept with in the Ali towers at the HHV! I contemplated stuffing one in my suitcase, but decided against it! LOL My most recent stay was in May 2015. I would happily return to stay here.
I have also stayed at the Halekulani. It is a gorgeous hotel with great history. The beachfront however is very small infront of the Halekulani.

<There is also the Hilton Hawaiian Village>

Yes, I included that hotel, it's the first one I listed "HHV"

Stay on one of those "tower" rooms at the Moana and go to the brunch on the lanai on Sunday.

suze, that is the one thing that is missing from that nice hotel. I like it because it is in a quieter area and the beach is the best but a pool is always nice. too bad they don't have one. The Hua Tree restaurant is very good.

Oh I like the idea of the New Otani a lot and I very much like their bar by the restaurant.

Just for me a pool is important for an island vacation, so I do like to mention the lack, since it's a little unusual and might surprise people not to find one. Plenty of folks are OK with just the beach, I like to have both!
