NY's in NO
I have totally enjoyed reading all your thoughts and experiences in the Big Easy!
We are staying at the Hyatt (next to the Superdome) on New Year's eve - any comments?
Are we crazy to walk down to the French Quarter from this hotel?
Thanks in advance -

mo,
stay on Poydras where it's lit...and pretty much head towards the quarter on one of the better-lit streets, OR if you feel like walking, go as far as the riverwalk (by the Hilton) and take the trolley! (or walk)
...on the way back, depending on how late, etc, etc...you might just opt for a relatively inexpensive cab ride home...

(I must be brain-dead. sorry.)
I just caught the New Years eve part...
Basically, same thoughts as above,
...with a couple footnotes...
I have, actually, spent a couple of New Years in NO and everything was basically fine...
...Just one word of advise...
If you plan on heading to the fireworks that overlook the Mississippi, (by Jackson Sq and Jax brewery)...at midnight...
GO EARLY and get a spot on the riverfront.
I've nearly gotten crushed "to death" (or so I thought) in the onslaught of forgetfull revelers heading towards the display...
otherwise, happy crowd and just be careful.
end of story.
Though strangely interesting...it was a bit scary...
on the same note...I don't recall if taxis were hard to get at that time, since I was staying in the quarter...
sigh...time does pass so quickly sometimes...
ok. that's all.
