NYE - San Diego

Starting a new thread. Are there any negatives to San Diego over New Year's Eve - too crowded, not everything open New Years Day? The Omni has a fantastic rate of $129/night and my travel dates are flexible. My hubby and I don't drink or party so we will probably spend a quiet night in the hotel after a good dinner out.

We did exactly what you are thinking on 12/31/04. We stayed at the Omni and had a beautiful corner suite overlooking the ballpark and the ocean.

We went out for an dinner before the crowds formed and were back at hotel to watch fireworks at midnight.

Go for it!!

So, there's fireworks at midnight? They can been seen from the Omni? Is it too late to get dinner reservations? Any suggestions for where?

We ate at Lou& Mickey's Steakhouse. It was excellent and a short walk from Omni.

Other good meals in Gaslamp were at:
Royal Thai [had Christmas dinner there as it was one of few places open]http://www.sdro.com/rthai/
Croce's Restaurant & Jazz Bar -great music and good food -

At the Omni, is McCormicks and Schmicks
which is also delish - we had breakfast included with our package and ate here every morning. You have to try their Crabcake Eggs Benedict!!

This is a good site, but for some reason the home page isn't working:

Be sure to go to Little Italy for some great italian food. We loved Filippi's Pizza Grotto so much we ate there twice! HUGE portions and delish too. We haven't had such good Italian food since we moved from NY! http://www.realcheesepizza.com/

I am not sure where the fireworks were held, but we could see them from our room which faced west.

Hope this helps...

Debi...thanks so much for the great suggestions! I really want to go over NYE...now I've got to concentrate on finding a cheap flight! I love Italian food so Filippi's is on my list to visit at least once (or twice!)
