NYC with teens
A group of students from my high school will be traveling to New York City to take a seminar. We will have time to go to sites in the afternoon and at night. What are the best places that will interest teens and be reasonable for our budget?
Any comments wouild be helpful. Thanks.

Here are several suggestions:
The Natural History Museum and Central Park (which is right next to it) are possibilities.
Walk part of the Brooklyn Bridge from City Hall -- great views of lower Manhattan.
With just about any guide book you can take yourselves on a walking tour of any number of neighborhoods that might be of interest. Lower Manhattan has lots of historical significance, Greenwich Village is famous for the many literary and political figures who lived there, Midtown has Rockefeller Center and other architectural buildings of interest, etc.

If you want do some funky clothes shopping, visit the area around NY University, especially around Canal Street. That area will definitely be within your budget as it is a college community. Soho (South of Houston St.) is great to see as many movies have been filmed there and there are interesting boutiques. Time Square has some touristy theme restaurants and the wax museum. If the weather is nice, be sure to take a stroll through the south end of Central Park for good NYC people watching. Have a great time.

I agree. Head for Washington Square park and head in any direction off the park. The area is totally safe during the day and besides being a cool college neighborhood (NYU) which teens will love, is a very historic neighborhood with lots of interesting architecture. If the kids are adventureous eaters, take them to Mamoun's for a $2 falafel on W.3rd and MacDougal, off the SW corner of the park. It is an expreience. On the corner of MacDougal & Bleeker are 4 coffehouses famous from the beatnic Bob Dylan days and a good place to hang out.
