NYC Weather This Weekend- Should We Wait? Love to Hear From Someone There

We had air tickets to fly in today but took advantage of the waiver as I had complete laryngitis. As luck would have it our flight was canceled!
We are thinking about rebooking for tomorrow as I've improved but it doesn't sound like the weather has.
I know the media tends to blow things out of proportion so, if you're in Manhattan tonight, just how bad is it?
Do you suggest waiting for a different weekend to come to New York?
Thanks!!

Messy. It rained an snowed all day so all the streets and sidewalks are slushy rather than snow covered. Right now airports are still open but reporting delays, Newark of more than an hour, JFK 30 minutes.

The rain is supposed to become all snow overnight and continue snowing most of tomorrow finishing with 8-12 inches. Flurries on Saturday. Cloudy on Sunday.

Thanks!
I saw the pictures of Central Park looking gorgeous but evidently dangerous from falling tree limbs.

How long were you planning on staying? If it's just a weekend trip, I'd try to delay for another weekend. Tomorrow will be a mess at the airports.

I suspect most flights will be cancelled tomorrow as well. The weather is actually worse right now that it has been all day. But the snow will have stopped by Saturday morning, and midtown at least should be pretty clear by Saturday afternoon. They clean the streets very quickly (in Manhattan, at least).

But I'd still wait until next weekend if possible.

The snow has begun to accumulate for real now . . .

I just came home to the upper east side from Lincoln Center. Delay your trip. It's so unpleasant with freezing slush getting covered by snow. The worst is the wind making the use of an umbrella a waste of time. Visiting might be doable, but why do it? Come in the spring!

The weather is so bad, we actually canceled our poker game for Friday night. Usually only wives can do that.

Oh my!!!
Thank you all so much for your input!
Coming from California the idea of New York in the snow is very romantic.
Some how that's not the sense I'm getting here.
You guys are great. My health has been iffy this week and I have one knee that's that's just not working right.
I think this means we wait for the fall (not mine!).

You'd be smart to postpone. The lovely snow is weighing down tree limbs all over the city and a man was struck by a falling elm branch and killed in Central Park yesterday. Police were telling people to evacuate the park: "Leave the park. Branches are falling. The Park isn't safe." Unfortunately, this isn't just a pretty 'frosting' of snow. It's a weather event that is more than just inconvenient this time.

Just heard there's about a foot of snow in Manhattan and there's more coming.

btw: That fallen tree 'branch' was the size of a tree trunk. What a freakish thing to happen. Terrible.

As my dog will attest, this isn't a day to go out. And now they say the snow is going to continue until Monday off and on. For the first time this winter, I actually had to wade through deep drifts, and that hasn't happened in Manhattan for a few years.

Local news just claimed 16 inches in Central Park. NYC schools closed. Delays at airports, many flights cancelled. I suspect you would have had another cancelled flight.

Central Park is closed and the access roads aren't plowed.

20 inches now and still snowing, though there was a brief break from snow and even some sunshine a few hours ago.

Seems pretty ok right now. Slushy streets and sidewalks, but it's not too bad.

There are flight delays into and out of everywhere on the east coast. It would be best to call and confirm (nothing new there) flights and connections. Rail service from New Haven to NYC was affected by the storm yesterday. You can go on metro North's website to check what's going on now.

I appreciate all the updates.
I've been watching the webcams but it's just not the same thing as being there.
I spoke with a client in DC yesterday and he said he never wants to see another snow flake.
It's only a novelty to those of us who don't get it!
The cherry and plum trees are blooming in Northern California this week.

I live on the Upper East Side and the sidewalks are clear today, with only a few exceptions in front of closed shops. Roads are fine -- basically my area is functioning normally. Brunch at Atlantic Grill wasn't as crowded as it usually would be, but it was close.

We are in the East Village and the streets are pretty good except at the corners.
