Hi there... I am planning a visit from London to NYC from Weds 22 May until Sat 25 May and am after any good tips on where to go and what to see... I've been once before and have seen most of the usual tourist sites. Was hoping to see Yankees game but they aren't playing while I'm there.

Would appreciate any other similar experiences... thanks very much in advance....x

You could consider going to a Met game since they will most likely be in town.
Indicate what you have already done and your interests and suggestions on what to see and do will follow.

New Yorkers aren't shy when it comes to suggesting things to do and places to go. Perhaps a little guidance as to your interests will help narrow the recommendations.

Your last 2 days here will be the start of the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the official start of Summer in NY. It is a big weekend for locals to head out of town and many will get started early on Friday or even Thursday. (I'm heading to Vegas.)

The good news for you is that some of the more well known restaurants start to get less crowded on Friday and Saturday nights.

If you have not already done so, the Bronx Zoo is a nice place to visit as is the Botanical Garden.

If you plan on going to the Met Museum on 5th Ave., Friday nights are a great time to go as they have a bar on the roof-top sculpture garden. You can go around 5 or 6, have a couple of drinks and look at some Impressionist paintings.

The newly refurbished Rose Planetarium at the Museum of Natural History and then a casual stroll in Central Park, which is across the street, to think things over and enjoy the day.

Maybe get a hot dog too.

If you are interested in baseball definitely see the Mets (take #7 train from times square to shea stadium). Also there is a special baseball exhibit at the museum of natural history (items from the baseball hall of fame in cooperstown,ny).

You should also explore neighborhoods that you hadn't previously. I don't know where you've been before but there are so many great areas to just wander around, grab a bite and just people watch. Some areas are the East VIllage (including St. marks place, little India), the lower east side (tenement museum, kosher delis, discount shopping), brooklyn hts (walk over brooklyn brigde, great views of manhattan, lots of cafes and restaurants), just to name a few.

Thanks for all the tips, I will definately try to see a Met game while I'm there and visit the Met Museum and Bronx Zoo. I have only been to Manhatten before so this will give me a chance to explore the other surrounding neighbourhoods...

The last time my family visited we took a walking tour with Big Onion Walking Tours (www.bigonion.com). All of the guides are graduate students (or graduates) of history and very knowledgable. The tours are very reasonably priced. We did the "Noshing" tour of the Lower East Side, Little Italy & Chinatown. It was a wonderful view of the ethnic roots of a neighborhood we didn't know that well, plus lots of tastes of great (and interesting) foods. I highly recommend it -- especially if you've already done the regular tourist stuff.
