NYC South Street Seaport TKTS booth

Will arrive in NYC at 9:30AM on Friday, Oct. 3. Plan to go to hotel at 142 W. 49th and drop off luggage. We then want to go to the South Street Seaport TKTS booth and attempt to get tickets for a Saturday matinee. I assume the subway is the best method of transportation. How do we get from W. 49th to the seaport? Is this the same location where we can catch the boat to Ellis Island?

No, it is not the same location from where you catch the boat to Ellis Island. You catch the boat from Battery Park which is less than one mile south of the Seaport. To get to the Seaport take the downtown local (#1or #9) at 50th Street and Broadway and get off at the Times Square station (one stop). Take a downtown express (#2 or #3) to the Fulton street station. Exit subway and walk along Fulton east to the seaport - about 1/2 a mile

Rob,

Is there an easier way to get from the South Street Seaport TKTS booth to Battery Park than walking? What about the bus or the subway? We may buy tickets for the Grayline tour bus. Would that be our best option?

As far as I know, the only convenient ways to get from the Seaport to Battery Park are walking or a taxi.

(You could walk west on Fulton and get on the subway for a very short ride south, but that doesn't make much sense.)

Enjoy NYC!

We arrived at TKTS around 10:25 a.m. and were about 35 people back. I opens at 11 and moves pretty quickly. The walk to Battery Park is not bad as long as it is not raining in which case you might want to get back on the subway...

Have fun!

Another option is to walk on Fulton Street past where you get the 2 or 3 train about another 1/2 mile to the 4 or 5 train downtown to Bowling Green which is right across the street from Battery Park.

BTW, if you decide to take the Lower Manhattan Grayline tour, which I highly recommend, you can buy the Sttue of Liberty/Ellis Island ticket at the same time. it'll save you time from having to stand in the ticket line at Battery Park. Once you get to Battery Park just go to the line for boarding the boat.

The Fulton Street 2/3 station is two blocks from the Fulton Street 4/5, but it's easier to walk to Battery Park from the seaport.

Have a walk, see some sights.

There is also a bus that goes along Water St to the ferry, I think it's the #15 if you don't want to walk. There are some great sites to see, Fraunces Tavern, the Vietnam Memorial, memorial to the World Trade Center, Battery Park, the tall ships, (the Peking and the Wavertree), a few good shops and several good restaurants.

If you take the subway down you can use your metrocard for a transfer to the bus. Get a metro card at the subway, they are great to have so you can hop on and off the bus and subway while you are here, easier in most cases than taking a taxi.

Oh and I have a little quiz for you, right at the South St. Seaport there is a building on the other side of the street and it has attached to the side of the building lots of blocks with numbers. What are the blocks and numbers all about? IF you walk to the Ferry you will walk right by the building so that's your homework while you are here, lol. Oh and have a GREAT time.

Have a GREAT time.
