NYC questions

I will be on NYC in Spetember, but I have some questions... Is it The Paramount Hotel a good choice? Has anyone seen Naked Boys Singing! I have heard it is a different musical or could you suggest me another one.
At least where is the New York port? I will take a cruise and I need to know the best way to go there from Manhattan. Thanks for your advices.

I like the Paramount hotel. It's very chic, dimly lit, rooms are tiny, good location. Not sure if that's your style. They have cool bar, The Whiskey, but again depends on your style/taste.

Paramount is big on style but the rooms are small on space. It is very cool - particularly the public areas. Great location on 46th just off 8th Avenue. Circle Line Cruises leave from the pier at 42nd Street by West Side Highway - just walk down 8th Ave from the hotel, turn right and walk for about ten minutes - it's directly across the street - can't miss it. I believe there may also be cruises from South Street Seaport but not certain of this.

The Paramount is just like "The Emperor's new clothes"... Everybody tells you how cool it is to pay $250 a night for a Black and chrome, picture frame headboard, 8'x10' early 1900's refurb. When all is said and done...you get less space than you would get in a jail cell, and you feel like you have been ripped off...If you want to be cool, go sit in the lobby for a half-hour, ride up-and-down in one of the pink or blue stainless elevators, then go back to your "normal" room and laugh til your side hurts about the guys like me who got stuck at the Paramount. What do you think about that, your Emperoholiness? Have Fun!

If by the "New York port" you mean where the cruise ships leave from, then you're talking about the West 40s and 50s at the Hudson River and 12th Avenue in mid-Manhattan.
The title of "Naked Boys Singing," from what I've read about the show, pretty much tells is what the show is! The audience for the show is mainly gay.

The piers are on 12th Avenue between 48th and 52nd Streets. It is four long blocks to the piers - a little over one half a mile. The best way to go is by taxi. A taxi will cost around $6 with a tip. To get to the drop point at the piers the taxi will have to go north to 55th to cross 12th Avenue and then soutoh to get to the piers.

Just a possible clarification to a previous reply (both mine and rqf's)- there are in fact piers between 48th and 52nd Streets and that's where cruise ships will be leaving from. If instead you're simply looking to take a sightseeing cruise, those boats leave from 42nd Street.

Don't know about the Paramount, but Naked Boys Singing is indeed just that. The show has been called the male response to the Vagina Monologues, sort of a Penis Soliloquies. We saw it and found it enjoyable - campy, at times touching, not great classic theatre but fun nonetheless. And of course there is a large gay audience - duhhh...
