You would have trouble getting Wicked tickets 6 months from now. You might be able to get some on short notice through a scalper. How much are you willing to pay?
I'd probably go for Gypsy, because you can get tickets (sometimes even at discount) and it is really great. Unless you don't mind paying several hundred dollars each for theatre tickets. Or if you want to see something serious, but wonderful, see August, Osage County.
I too would suggest Top of the Rock over Empire State. Better views and easier to do.

mtolar-Definitely skip the ESB and do TOTR! You can get a timed ticket and not have to wait in the massive lines at ESB! (It took us 3 hours!)
We reached TOTR when the sun was starting to set and it was so beautiful! We stayed on top for about an hour! Absolutely stunning!
Have fun and don't try to do too much!
