NYC hotels - suggestion needed

Hi!

I´m in need of some suggestions about NYC hotels (~U$100), well located and safe. And I would also like to know what is the best part of Manhattan to stay and to live.
Thanks in advance! You all are always so kind!

It might be helpful to use the search function of this forum initially to narrow down the scope of your question, particularly in regards to what part of Manhattan is the best part to live in. That choice is dictated by many factors including your budget, availability of housing and your lifestyle. As for hotels, your choices are very limited when trying to keep price at $100 US or less. Again, search this forum because the topic has been discussed on many occasions in recent months due to heavy travel to NYC for the summer season. As a general rule, the best deals from discounters or consolidators are during fall, winter and spring wiht the folowing exceptions:
1) Thansgiving to Jan 1st is busy, tends to be heavily booked in advance and special deals are scarce
2) Anytime a major convention or tradeshow is in town, the same rules apply. Keep in mind that hotel/occupancy and sales tax is around 13%, meaning a room charged at $88 will total around $100. This dictates that your price range is best met by choosing a hotel that offetrs roms with a shared bath. Because so many Americans are unaccustomed to this arrangement and/or unwilling to have a shared bath, the rooms of this type that are available tend to be god bargains by NYC standards. Hotels offering this include the Murray Hill Inn, Hotel Habitat and the Pickwick Arms. You can expect to pay $70-85 per night for such a room prior to taxes. It's an arrangement well worth considering if you're on a strict budget.

Try calling or checking Best Westerns web site for the (I can't exactly remember the name) The President or Presidential Hotel. It's approximately at 48th St. just off Broadway in the heart of Times Square (just around the corner from Dave Lettermans's/CBS studio. We stayed there 2 yrs ago for approximately $100 a night and would certainly recommend it for safety, price, & location. The room we had was very small but clean.

The Habitat Hotel has received very good reviews. I believe they have some for about $85 per night with shared bath, plus tax (remember hotel room taxes are high in New York) -- or they have rooms with private bath for over $100. It is well located in midtown but I've never stayed there.

Forgot to mention -- I have stayed at the Hotel Edison and recommend it, but it is over $100 per night (it was $115 for a double the last time I stayed there, but it may be more now). It is safe, clean, and well-located in the theatre district.

Its impossible to say which is the nicest area to live? Do you mean most expensive? I would say anywhere near a park-- central park west, fifth avenue, some of the nice brownstone streets on the upper east side or in Greenwich village, in an apartment with a key for Grammercy Park, parts of Brooklyn-- brooklyn heights, midwood, manhattan beach, sea gate-- residential, trees and lawns and flowers

I would look at booking a room through Priceline.com. I stayed at a 4-star hotel in Midtown this summer for $125. You can get a very nice room for your budget, without considering the need to share a bathroom (Yuck!). You might be able to land a 3-star hotel for $100--just depends on the time you are traveling. If you are fearful of paying upfront and having no possibility of cancelling your reservations, then search some of the on-line hotel brokers (turbotrip.com, quickbook.com,hotelreservations.com, etc.)and also the webpages of the hotels--they often have specials that are only on their specific website. Midtown or the Upper East Side would be where you want to stay.

Good Luck.
