I will be in NYC for the first time at the end of August. I've been checking restaurantrow.com/zagats,etc. Does anyone have experience at Foley's as far as food, good view of times square,etc. Also I am going to U.S. Open and I know that I should take Subway #7 to Flushing Meadows. Does this subway route only run until 9:30 a.m. to get to U.S. Open by 11:00 Does anyone know what time I should take subway to get to Open for Day session which starts at 11:00 a.m. Also are the gray line bus tours for Hop on/Hop off good? Looking at taking the Lower Manhattan tour. I have posted messages here before and appreciate all the great advice from you New Yorkers!!!

I never ate at Foleys but...

as to the #7 train. It runs all the time/24 hours a day. At that time, you are going against rush hour (not as crowded). It takes approx. 35 minutes to get to the Open from the #7 to Willets Point stop (2nd to last stop). You have Shea on one side of the station and the US Open on the other side so there really isn't a neighborhood there to be concerned with.
The 7 will run every 5-8 minutes at that time. Note though that if you are near Penn Station, the Long Island Rail Road Port Washington Line will also go there a little faster but less frequent.

I've eaten at Foley's twice and enjoyed it each time. I've eaten nothing but seafood and it's all been great. The view of Times Square is from about the fourth floor of the Renaissance Hotel and if you want to be along one of the windows, you should make reservations. I just walked in both times (after the theatre crowd had left) and wasn't by the windows, but that was OK, too.

I stayed at the Renaissance Hotel last week, but didn't eat at Foley's. I can tell you this...you know the building that has the big lighted ball on it on New Year's Eve that's always on TV? Well, this isn't it, but is identical to that one. They are at opposite ends of Times Square and I assume that Foley's looks directly at it, although 6 blocks or so away. To me, there probably would'nt be a better view than what you would get from Foley's.

Another restaruant with a good view of Times Square (particularly at night) is the one in the Novotel Hotel at lobby level about 5 floors above street level. It's on Broadway in the 50's. The view in my opinion is actually better then Foley's since it is a few blocks further away and gives a great panorama of the entire area. I haven't eaten there so I can't comment on the food.
