CatherineF - my prayers are with you. I think that there are hot lines that may be able to help but at this time, as far as I can determine, with so many building collapsing around the WTC, no one has really been able to get in.
On the positive side, phones have been down and such. It is possible (and I hope) that your brother may have not been able to get through to you.
In any case, we pray for you and for your brother. God bless. And God bless everyone in NYC and DC and the victoms on those flights.

My prayers and thoughts are with those of you who are in NYC or have family/friends in these areas that have been attacked. There really aren't any "right" words at this time; just know that all of you are being cared for.
There were so many people who gave blood in Seattle today that the blood bank had to turn people away and asked people to make an appointment for the future. My heart is breaking over this tragedy.

Again, thinking of you all and praying for you all. Was stunned this morning when I woke up and turned on the tv. Immediately rang my friend in NY who is a stockbroker and he was ok, thank god (it was about 6pm your time) and he said he saw the whole thing. He's a Desert Storm vet and said that this was much much worse.
Australia grieves with you.

Fine here in DC ... I appreciate your asking. I hope all of you in NYC are okay and safe, and that your families are safe too. Our thoughts are with you. As terrible as the Pentagon is, NYC is beyond my imagination. I cannot fathom how I'll ever feel the same again ... I know I will not. I hope our country will be wise and not allow anger to decide for us. Take care of yourselves. Ciao, L

CatherineF, I know three people who were at the WTC yesterday, and all survived. One on the 24th floor, one across the street and one on the 82nd floor (which was above the impact site). They all walked down and out. Two were able to reach pay phones by around noon time, although one was clearly in shock and couldn't speak (just kept walking, 123 blocks) until late yesterday afternoon. I hope your brother is okay and just couldn't get through to you. My thoughts are with you.

My thoughts and prayers are with those in NYC and DC who were affected by this tradgedy. Spent a wonderful weekend (with great help from the NYC fodorites here) in NYC last spring with my daughter, her best friend and her mom to celebrate the girl's 10th birthday's. After school yesterday, found the girl's looking at all of their trip photo's, but with special interest at those containing the WTC towers taken from the Empire state building. Still almost too shocking to believe they are gone! We continue to pray as a family, and plan to give blood this week. God Bless!

I am okay. It is avery very hard to take this in and to know completely that this has happened to my home. I live near enough to be in a very affected zone, but sitll cannot believe it.
If you are here, go to Union Square, to the South of it, there are rolls of paper taped to the pavement where people are writing all kinds of very moving, mostly spiritually oreinted, mostly non-violent things, creating some kind of -- I don't know what, not exactly a shrine--spontaneously.
All ages, all languages/alphabets.
Near where the Gandhi statue used to be (it's put away during a park remodelling).
My prayers for Catherine's brother & Catherine. Please let us know if possible.

Although I'm in NJ outide NYC I am in the city with great regularity for both business and personal activities and I do post frequently on this board. A delayed appointment had me still at home when this unspeakable tragedy occurred and by the grace of God I have no friends or relatives who were lost or injured. Like others, I remain stunned and numbed by the scale and savagery of this act. Prayers go out to all those affected.

I picked up our New York trip pictures Monday night--there's a great shot taken on Ellis Island Sept. 1 of our kids smiling happily with the World Trade Center in the background. I decided then and there to use that shot in our Christmas cards--now I don't know. My prayers go out to you all in New York and Washington. I believe with all my heart that as Americans we're tougher, braver and stronger than terrorists give us credit for--this will make us a stronger nation, not a weaker one. God Bless the families who lost loved ones yesterday or who haven't yet heard from family and friends--our prayers are with you.

I was stationed overseas when 9-11 happened, and I never wanted to be home so badly in my entire life. I missed my family and friends, I wanted to hold them and cry with them. It was so hard to watch from afar as my country was reeling in shock and horror. No-one I know was involved in the tragedy, but a woman I chatted with online lost 2 nephews who were firefighters in NY. I prayed so hard for her, and for everyone. So sad, so sad, such sorrow.
Today, 2 years later, we're still stationed here in the UK, and even though the grief has tempered, and has gotten softer with time, my thoughts turn toward home. I read yesterday, 9-10-2003, that new remains had been found near a building that had been heavily damaged and was deemed at the time to be unsafe for inspection. I hope that, having finally been found, the soul(s) of the person or persons to whom those remains belong can finally rest.
Thoughts of home, thoughts of those who were lost and the loved ones who miss them so terribly, thoughts of those who survived, thoughts for all of us, the human race. Peace, and many blessings to you all.

I looked out of my window this morning to a beautiful London dawn and thought of you all in New York, the living and the dead. Still big, fat, wet tears 2 years later and a heavy, heavy heart. Anyone who has been to New York doesn't forget it in a hurry and 2 years has done very little to ease the shock.
I'm thinking of you all today. I hope you all have a good day on this most sombre of days. xxx
