NYC, aBroadway Show - then what...
I was born in NY then moved. All return visits were to relatives. Finally, hubby & I are going to a Broadway show in the fall and want to make a vacation out of it by traveling further and exploring more than just the city. Maybe Hamptons, Upstate NY, NiagraFalls, Canada. Does anyone have any 10day recommendations - cities mostly.

I'm not quite sure where you are from or what you like to do, but since you mention cities you might want to try going to Boston for a few days (nice size city, stores, historical sites) and then either to Plymouth or Cape Cod. Maine is also a great choice.
Or you can go the other way and hit Washington DC for a little city life and then hit the beautiful state of Virginia for some more peaceful surroundings.

While I'm not sure what you want, I do know where you can find it. Every year (at about this time too) New York Magazine and/or Timeout New York come out with "Great Summer Weekend Getaways" or something like that, which usually includes spas, bed a& breakfasts, etc. Try www.newyorkmag.com or www.timeoutny.com. Good luck!

Montreal is a great city to visit and is just over 1/2 day drive from NYC. Add 3 1/2 more driving hours from Montreal and you can also spend a night or two in Quebec City. Both are great places to visit. Or, instead of Quebec, head north from Montreal into the Laurentians.
Another nice choice about the same distance would be Portsmouth, NH, and from there you can go up into southern Maine along the coast.
Also about the same distance fom NYC, but going south instead, is Williamsburg VA (365 miles from NY) - another really nice place to spend a few days. You could combine that with a trip to Washington DC, which is roughly a 4 1/2 hr drive from NY.
