NY-Skateboarding & Graffiti
HI
My 17 year old son and I will be in NY this weekend. He enjoys skateboarding. Where can he do this in the cit?
He also likes graffiti art. Are there museums for it? Are there Modern Art museums besides MOMA?
Thanks,
Krystyna

Typical fodors response....unhelpful (at best).
Of course he could find other things to do, but why not help him find things he'd enjoy? We do the same when we visit NYC - we do some of the same activities that we like to do at home.
There are several skate parks along the Hudson River and other places in Manhattan. If you google maps search "skate park near NYC" you'll see this map.

First, if he is a city kid, that is one thing, for skate boarders are competing for space with taxis, trucks, bikes, pedestrians, and even surfaces. So he would be well advised to google parks that allow it. I live on the Lower East Side where the kids still skateboard in Tompkins Square Park and there is SOME graffiti.
Please do you your homework regarding art, as NYC is one of the art capitals of the world. Below is a gallery listing which you can check out what you like. While there is still graffiti in the streets, it isn't like it used to be.
