NY or PA - Winter Resort with Ice Skating Rink

Hi,

Can someone recommend a good winter park/resort within a reasonable driving distance of New York City which would have an ice skating rink in addition to the usual "snow" activities? Thanks!

We stayed at the Summit in the Poconos for our honeymoon (in 1995) and at that time they had an ice-skating rink, which was good, because it was a terribly dry winter and there was no snow for "snow activities"! It is a couples resort, and I believe they are still in business, but I don't know if they still have ice-skating.

I could be wrong, but I think the Summit went bankrupt (and out of business) a while ago. Same for one of my favorites - the Mount Airy Lodge.

Several years ago we stayed at the Nevele (tacky, throwback, catskills kind of place). I don't know if it even still exists but it did have an ice skating rink.

Mohonk Mountain House has a rink, and is about 2-3 hours from NYC.

Now whether it is appropriate or not depends on who the travelers are, expectations for price, accommodations, food, atmosphere, etc.
Other than an ice rink, what are you looking for in a resort?

Is Lake Placid "a reasonable driving distance" from NYC?

Look into Mohonk Mountain House -- a lot of people don't like it, but others do. A matter of taste at least in part. I don't remember if the skating was on the lake or on a rink.

I played hockey there years ago.(No, not the 1980 Olympic team.) I think Lake Placid is at least 5 hours from NYC.

It is a HUGE weekend destination for hockey touraments. You may have difficulty finding a place to stay if there is a tournament that weekend.

I am not aware of any hotels in the Poconos (w/i 2 hours of NYC) that still have an ice skating rink. The Pocono Ice Arena (in Shawnee) closed about 3 years ago.
