Take at look at Time Out NY and Village Voice both on line and the periodicals. As you know jazz takes many forms, so here you can choose what you like,

A well known spot by jazz musicians and not well known to tourists is ST. Nich Pub, in Washington Heights, they have some great talent come through and I have seen several hollywood stars as well.

St. Nick Pub is on St. Nicholas Ave and 149th St.

There are so many venues for music in the city, so you won't have a problem finding something wonderful.

From the Blue Note and Village Vangard to the Irridium. All have musicians of (pardon the pun) note.

The Village Voice as already noted and the New York Times have listings of music weekly.

Also check out www.lincolncenter.org and www.carnegiehall.org for more info on jazz to classical music and more.

Have a wonderful trip.

Birdland is in midtown near 8th ave.
They have early sets as well.

The Iridium is in mid-town near Broadway, Both are fun more upscale clubs,

Don't forget the Jazz Standard in the East 20s. Juillard has a jazz division too (some guy named Marsalis sometimes works with them) http://www.juilliard.edu/asp/calendar/calendar.asp

My favorite is the VV.

bigapplejazz.com has a great guide for jazz clubs. Don't miss Dizzy's Coca Cola at the Time Warner building, part of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
