NY luxury hotels!!! Please Help!!

My wife and I are traveling to New York prior to the birth of our first child. My company is putting us up where ever we want. We are in our 30's..but love old school, somewhat small, elegant hotels. Four Seasons a little too busy..we are stuck between the St. Regis and the Caryle any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Nice employer. I haven't stayed at either hotel, but have heard wonderful things about both. You might want to check out the Rants & Raves about each hotel under the Hotels tab. Another place to think about is the Inn at Washinbgton Park.

I would go for the St. Regis. Both hotels are old world with great service. The Carlyle has a more residential feel but last time I stayed there I felt it was starting to show its age. If you do stay here, get either a deluxe room or suite, superior rooms are very small.

The St. Regis is a beautiful hotel with probably the best rooms in NY and butler service on each floor. All the rooms are spacious--the deluxe has a seating area and a large marble bath.

For a really elegant European-style boutique hotel, check out the Plaza Athene at 37 East 64th Street (between Fifth & Madison Avenues).
