Has anyone used NY Habitat? Also, has anyone had any luck booking a 4 or 5 star hotel using priceline for NYC? I'm just trying to decide which way to go.

Amy I hope you see my reply. I have stayed at the Habitat. It is on 130 West 57th Street between Park and Lexington. Very nice location. I paid 85.00 a night plus tax. My room was small. It had a twin bed, sink, tv, table, chair and ac in window, closet and small chest of drawers. The bathroom was across the hall. Toilets are each in a "closet". The bathrooms are separate. I just brought shower thongs. It was kept clean I always saw maids cleaning. The service was very courteous. This hotel is a European style. If you want your own bathroom you pay 40.00 extra for the priviledge.
I have not used priceline so I cannot tell you anything good or bad. I liked the value Habitat gave me. The Four Seasons is just a couple of blocks away and that is the most expensive hotel in NYC. Anyway good luck

I have used priceline.com, and found great deals. Whenever I need a room, and am not picky about the hotel, I always use Priceline. NYC is the perfect example of how priceline excels. My latest deal was the Grand Hyatt on Memorial Weekend for $75 a night. You just can't beat that, even in a Euro-style hotel.

Step 1: Book the Habitat.
Step 2: Bid on Priceline.
Step 3: If Priceline bid is accepted, cancel the Habitat.

I have bid on Priceline twice for New York and have successfully bid $75 for a 3-star in midtown west and got the Hilton Times Square and for $85 another time got the 3-star Novotel. Both were very nice and in the area I wanted to stay in. I would stay at both of them again and thought they were a great value at those rates. I would consider bidding on a 3-star if I were you because even a 3-star will be better than the Habitat (at the very least, all 3-star Priceline hotels have private baths, and most of them have room service, etc.)

While I have never stayed at the Habitat, I have seen it favorably reviewed and heard their rooms are nice and have considered it several times. Personally, I prefer having a private bath though, and for what a room at the Habitat with private bath costs, I find that I can stay in a nicer room in a better hotel in an area I prefer at a cheaper rate using Priceline than booking the Habitat. Just my opinion.

I can personally vouch for Priceline's hotels in NYC. I have stayed at the Marriott Marquis for $100 and the Millennium Broadway for $90 and both were excellent hotels. I would not bid for less than a four-star, however.
