November trip, where to go?
Planning a trip (1 week), leave Nov. 4th. Any suggestions where to go & what to see? My goal is to go to every state in the United States. So far I've been to Alaska, Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, DC, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, & Virginia, so please don't suggest any of these states. Thanks for your help.

Since November can have nasty weather in the northern states and in the mountains, your best bet would be the southern ones. It does not seem you have been to anywhere in the Southwest or California, so I suggest you go there. The national parks of Utah, for instance, are just as beautiful in November as they are in July, and a lot less hot and crowded.

Second vote for Southern California. November is one of the nicest months to visit--warm daytime, very cool nights. You didn't mention where you're coming from, but there's a terrific airfare sale going on. If you find an airport near you served by Southwest, it is likely that at least some of the other airlines will have matched their $200 round-trip coast-to-coast fare. For instance, I just got round-trip tickets on American (LAX-to-Nashville and LAX-to-Birmingham) for $209 and $230 respectively.

A third vote for California- do a road trip up the coast! Fly into LA- rent a car and drive up the coast on HWY 1- Stop for the Hearst Castle, maybe a couple of nights somewhere in Big Sur, check out Monterey, and end up in San Fran. The scenery is stunning!
I just did this trip in March with the addition of 2 days in Tahoe for skiing in 10 days- so you should be able to do the trip in 7 if you stick to the coast.
Let us know what you decide!

Hi Sally. I agree that of the states you haven't been to, California would be my first choice -- particularly the Big Sur coast between LA & SF. Several of the airlines are having sale fares right now so maybe you could get a good deal. I would also highly recommend Texas -- Austin and San Antonio -- but that is more like a long weekend trip rather than a whole week. Same for South Carolina -- Charleston is fantastic, but it's more of a weekend jaunt.
Also, I notice you haven't been to Hawaii yet but you might want to spend more than 1 week when you do that (although there are some great sale fares there at the moment too).

Knowing where you're coming from or interested in would be a help.
But for you golf fans, Alabama has a series of golf courses from one end of the state to the other. All designed by Robert Trent Jones. Together they're called the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail (what else?). I've heard of people heading to Florida for a golfing vacation, stopped to check out one of these courses, and cancelled the Florida vacation to golf their way across Alabama. It's several dozen and in November it's still pretty enough in Alabama to enjoy them.
