We are planning our honeymoon trip to Nova Scotia in late September. Does anyone have ANY suggestions as to where the best WHALE WATCHING occurs (Southern area etc), or suggestions on the best places (Inns, B&B's, Castles) to stay? We will only be there for about 5 days - but want to have an enjoyable, relaxing and romantic vacation!

We spent a week in the Maritimes a couple of years ago and I can suggest you take a daytrip around the Cape Breton Trail for whale watching and great scenery. There are local tour operators up there who will take you for the day.You don't want to drive it yourself because there's too much scenery to see and you won't be able to enjoy it if you have to watch the road, too.

My husband and I are from Cape Breton and visited there last summer for our wedding. We had the best stay at the Gowrie House Country Inn inSydney Mines. We really recomend it for a place to stay on your second night of a honeymoon, as you may be too tired to enjoy it on your first night!

The best whale watching is at Briar Island near Digby.A trip around the Cabot Trail would be beautiful that time of year. The Normaway Inn in the Margaree Valley (near Margaree,also on Cape Breton Island) is a beautiful inn.There are also beautiful inns in Annapolis Royal (Annapolis Valley).If you have any specific questions ,please feel free to ask. Recently drove through Nova Scotia on my way to PEI and must tell you where *not* to stay. Pictou is a lovely town and the accomodations and restaurants are just fine, but, the wind blowing across the bay from the paper mill really does detract from the atmosphere. (Not to mention being unable to sleep with our windows open!) Otherwise, the province is lovely and I concur with all the other comments.

Just returned from Nova Scotia. Its the grandest place on earth. I enjoyed the Evangeline Trail the most. When you arrive ask for a "Doers and Dreamers" catalogue. It gives you great info on where to stay and what to see. There are many, many motels that you are best to avoid. Always ask to see your room befor you book it. I love Annapolis Royal. Catch a good meal (rare in n.s.) at Newman's Rest. right in the town there. Go to the farmer's open air market on sat. A.M.'s. Food service everywhere is slow so be prepareed to gaze into each other's eyes for quite a while while dining. Feeling extravagant? Eat at The Pines resort for a grand meal, its in Digby. For a local special eat fish and chips a the Red Raven Rest. also in Digby. They filmed a Steven King movie there.
