Explore the wonderful neighborhoods, go to musuems (many have evening hours, Broadway, Off Broadway, Yankees and Mets games, Chinatown, Little Italy (touristy, but if you've never been to them, you have to go at least once), Lower East side on a Sunday morning. Have fun

Both the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim are open late on Friday nights and not tourist spots at that time of day. Lincoln Center is wonderful and since May is a great time of year being out in the Lincoln Center Plaza is nice. It depends on your age and level of comfort, but there are loads of single bars along Colubus Avenue for the 20's-30's-40's age groups. Religious centers and the 92nd Street Y have evening activities, too. Buy New York Magazine as soon as you arrive as it contains a weekly listing of just about every event and activity for the week.

There are thousands upon thousands of things to do here, and I'm not talking museums and theatre either. Singles bars, dance clubs, CBGB, restaurants, after hours places, you name it. I'll second liberty's suggestion -- put on those walking shoes and do a little exploring and when you get back home let us know what you found, and if you find absolutely nothing that's O.K. too.
Just enjoy yourself.

The first thing you've got to do, Antonio, is get over this "no tourist things" attitude....because in New York, you've got to be a tourist to some degree or you're not enjoying the city!
So, relax and take note of the suggestions already offered.
(PS: We locals go to the Statue Liberty, eat at Carnegie Deli and see The Producers!)

I think it's hard to be alone in a city. But for one thing--if you are working here, I hope you'll find people you age whom you can ask for suggestions
and I imagine there'll be people with whom to have a drink.

So--I'd go to the TKTS booth with a New Yorker & a Time Out in my bag, to read the brief reviews of whatever's listed while I was in line, and get myself show tickets. When I go to London I do the equivalent for several evenings.

If you tell us of your age, social interests, and where you'll be staying, peole will probably tell you friendly bars if that interests you.

If you like movies--you have anopportunity here to see absolutely everything, almost, old and new, from all countries of the world--you could make yourself a film festival, or probably find one.

Start buying Time Out NY now and trying to get into it. You'll get some ideas.

(And--though "tourists" like the Producers--it is in the first place a first rate show. I don't regard it as a "tourists' show." It's not a Disney thing, etc.)
