NOT TRUE

THERE WAS AN ARTICLE IN THE SOUTHEASTERN US EDITION OF FODORS. THE ARTICLE DESCRIBED FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. AS TESTOSTERONE OVERLOAD AND NOTHING BUT NEON LIGHTS AND PLATOONS OF TOPLESS BARS. THIER COULD BE NOTHING FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH. FAYETTEVILLE OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS HAS REBUILT ITS SELF INTO A PLACE WHERE ANY CITIZEN WOULD BE PROUD TO CALL HOME. THE TOWN HAS GONE THROUGH AN EXTINSIVE DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION EFFORT AND HAS A BUDDING ARTS LIFE WITH MANY THINGS TO OFFER TO THE FAMILY. WE ALSO HAVE JUST OPENED A 26 MILLION DOLLAR MUSEUM DOWNTOWN TO HONOR OUR TROOPS IN THE AIRBORNE AND SPECIAL OPEARATIONS. FAYETTEVILLE HAS COME A LONG WAY IN 15 YEARS AND HAS A WAY TO GO YET. HOWEVER THE DAYS OF FAYETTENAM ARE DEAD. WE ARE ON OUR WAY TO A NEW AND BRIGHT FUTURE. STOP OFF AND VISIT IM SURE YOU WONT REGRET IT.

NO NEED TO SHOUT, Tony!!!!
Writing in capitals is considered rude.
Do you work for the Chamber of Commerce or something? Calm down.....maybe have a beer at one of Fayetteville's assortment of topless entertainment clubs.

First off what's with the caps? Using all caps will not make your statement more believable.
I've been to NC and found the people to be friendly, but very unsophisticated and uneducated. There were plenty of topless bars and neon lights.
It would be one of the last places in the U.S. I would live.

I've been to Fayetteville and it has a LOT of room to improve. I kind of doubt it could improve as much as it needed to.

But, Trek, any state boasting a senator like Jesse Helms can't be all bad. Furthermore, I find your average North Carolinian far wiser than your average Washington, DC (where I regretfully work) know-it-all. In North Carolina, the men are more manly and the women more ladylike than they are in Washington, DC. I'll guarantee anybody that.

Gee, and I was thinking, "Any state with Jesse Helms as its senator can't be all good!"

uneducated and unsphisticated? I'm sure there are those people in NC, just like everywhere else in the world. However, NC is also home to Duke University, Red Hat Software, NationsBank and Glaxo-Welcomme. Justifiably, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Charlotte have been named top places to live, work and do business since the early 1990's.
As for Jessie - well, I did not vote for him.

Like any state the size of NC, there's a lot of variation. Rolly-Derm and Chap'lheel can be quite sophisticated, although to be completely frank, it may be sophisticated because the people there tend to travel elsewhere in the US and the world (and many started from elsewhere). But sophistication isn't everything, and some parts of the rest of the state are far more gracious in a down-home sort of way. The state's physical beauty (ignoring hog lagoons) is stunning from mountains to Outer Banks.

Re:Fatalville -- the characterization may have been harsh, but it's not entirely imaginary. The lifestyle, however, is largely because of Ft. Bragg and the military-town culture that comes with it -- not because of anything native to North Carolina.

Sen. Helms has been an angel for his constituents (except, perhaps, Chapel Hill, which he despises) and a divvil for national and international affairs. As they say around here, "he's a damn fool but he's OUR damn fool."

Sorry, Tony -- I lived in Charlotte a few years ago and had the misfortune of visiting Fayetteville a few times and found it lived up to its description -- lots of pawn shops, strip joints, etc. My mother still goes there regularly (to visit friends who live nearby) and she too finds it a grim place. Unfortunately your post has probably served mostly to advertise negative aspects of Fayetteville; few would have otherwise read the description you referenced.

Seems ironic that the person making the initial post was shouting.
