North Rim, South Rim? Does it matter?

We're planning on visiting the Grand Canyon. I see that there is the North Rim and South Rim. Is one better? We can only get into the Yavapai hotel on the South Rim, has anyone ever stayed there? Any help is appreciated!

South Rim is the most popular for many good reasons.

The NPS website has tons of photos and information, so you can decide for yourself what's most appealing to you.

The South Rim gives you more to see of the canyon
where the North Rim area is on a side canyon so the
vista, while lovely is limited. For a first trip to
Grand Canyon, the South Rim isthe best way to go.

Keep calling every day for reservations...you must
phone as cancellations never show up on the website.

If traveling from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, we are usually satisfied with North Rim, because we like to visit Zion National Park at the same time.

Well yes, it does matter if you're planning a spring or late fall/winter trip. The lodging and visitor services at the North Rim are open May 15 to October 15. The road into the North Rim is usually open prior to May 15th and later than October 15th but is weather dependent.

You didn't mention a date for your trip but the South Rim may be your only option depending on when you're going.

One reason why the South Rim is more popular is that it's easier to reach.
The main advantage of the North Rim is that it's much less crowded.
Which one to choose? You can't go wrong with either! The views are spectacular no matter which one you pick!
