I'm in Raleigh.
bb, someplace along 40 or off the beltline might be easier to get to/find parking than downtown - just a thought.
I guess it would depend on whether we are looking at dinner also or just looking for a place to gather.
There are also some really great new places to go. Dining out is another hobby of ours
If we are looking at trying to make it central, we could have it someplace along 40 like Capital City Chop House at Aviation Parkway - that would be more convenient for the Chapel Hill and Durham folks. (There are also other places out in that general area.)
I think it's a great idea!

Good idea Dan.
There are lots of really nice places to eat at Streets at Southpoint - PF Changs, Big Bowl, etc.
That would also be pretty central for everyone.
bb, why don't you keep this in your mind and bring it up again shortly after the holidays? It sounds like we could get enough together to make it fun. If not, you and I can go find a tea room and have some watercress sandwiches with the crusts cut off and some sweetea and compare recipes!

Diana, The Streets at Southpoint could be a very good spot ....... you have the Firebird Grill and Maggiano's there, too. I am thinking of a timeframe sometime between the holidays and Spring. I think we can get together a good group; I've only just posted this, and look at the response! (And, Diana, we will definitely have to do that girly tea thing sometime! )
Keep the responses coming, guys! So glad you're all enthused....

Looking forward to it. I have hoped someone would organize a get-together around here for a while. Of course, at that point I will lose some anonymity and have to behave myself better. Diana, at first I thought you were saying you could compare recipes with me. I like to eat but don't have much time for cooking : ) Sognatrice2, interesting that you have a place at Kerr Lake and live in NY. I am originally from Henderson, right next to Kerr Lake. I will have to bring along my camera. I can see a big group photo in front of the Southpoint fountain : )

Guys, thought I would pull up this old post to review what was discussed last Fall about a North Carolina get-together since I just saw the new post regarding one. I had hoped for a GTG this past Spring, but my schedule was too busy to arrange it.
I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'll start with this idea: a dinner GTG at Firebird's Rocky Mountain Grill at The Streets of Southpoint, Durham on Saturday, November 12th (if I talk to the manager, and could work it out.) Maybe others who've arranged GTGs could give me some ideas, but I'm thinking everyone pays cash for their dinner, wears a name-tag with your Fodor's nickname (that's all you have to reveal about yourself if you prefer .. nccgirl, feel free to wear your Halloween mask! Come to think of it, I have feathered eyeglasses from N.O. )
From reviewing our old post, I think this Durham location might be the most convenient one for the majority of people who expressed interest in getting together. I'll just throw this date & place out as a possibility to start the ball rolling (nothing written in stone), and see what comes back here. You can also e-mail me at [email protected]. Hope we will get a great response ....

I work in the Park and I know there are several who are in Chapel Hill and Durham and Raleigh and environs, so Streets at Southpoint is a good central location.
There's a PF Changs there also which is very good and you don't have to deal with the mall parking at all since it is across the street from the mall and stand-alone. (The parking there at S@SP can be a BEAR.)
Maybe we could see who all would like to come and check on whether it would be better as an after-work-on-a-Friday function or a weekend thing.
It's better for me to be after work as I live pretty far from Durham (almost to Fuquay), but I'll go with whatever works for everyone else!

Hey Diana ... good to *see* you! The problem with an after-work on Friday would be for those driving from a distance to join us. Saturday evening might work better if we want to accommodate the most people. Thanks for the PF Changs idea ... that's a thought!

Hmm, since I wrote last October, I still like my privacy, but I do like Fodorites.
Love the mall, hate the parking lot. How in the world did they design a mall that's almost impossible to make a left turn out of? I haven't been to PF Changs but I can take the 'back route' there and avoid most of the mall traffic lights.
If I'm around in November I'll probably come.
