I definitely have this restaurant on my list of eats but not sure which meal - brunch or dinner. I can't afford both. Would love some feedback from anyone out there with an opinion on this very important matter.

Atmosphere? Menu?

Brunch will be cheaper but then you'll have to walk around in the NO afternoon heat on a full stomach. Up to you.

Brunch!! Their weekend jazz brunch is wonderful...and having seen your other posts I'm sure you'd love it. I've had dinner there any number of times, but their jazz brunch is really fun.

I know, too, that you'll be there in August, which is WAY too hot to sit on the patio, but if you can get a table at the window in the patio room or at the window in the garden room I think you'd love it.

Have a few 25 cent martinis for me!

Commander's Palace has a couple of "must haves" on the menu, which are turtle soup and bread pudding, unless their menu has changed, but I can't imagine these being deleted - they are very popular. Try to find out if they are available at brunch...if not, I would opt for dinner. (Menu used to be on their web site, probably still is).

Brunch, definitely. You can take the streetcar back into the Quarter.

I would opt for brunch, too. And, like the other reply stated, you can take the streetcar to and from the French Quarter.

Okay, so here is a silly question: what is turtle soup?

(I have a feeling I may be splurging at this place for brunch and dinner!).

Anyone eat at Foodie's Kitchen before? I read that they package the Turtle Soup from Commander's Palace for those on the go. Apparently it is a great sandwich shop.

Not a silly question...turtle soup is soup made from - you guessed it - turtle meat!

It tastes like chili

So it tastes like Turtle chili? That's disgusting. ew.

You might as well try it because everybody will ask if you liked it and you'll be embarassed to admit that you missed the chance. Kind of like alligator in Florida or rattlesnake Out West.

I will definitely try it. I was thinking that it might just be the name - like those chocolate turtle candies.

I love turtle soup. One of my favorites. Commander's does it better than anyone, although Mr. B's Bistro is a close second.

I've had turtle soup in the Cayman Islands where there is a great turtle farm (making eating turtle legal). It was wonderful, am looking forward to seeing how NO does it's turtle soup!
