I stayed at the Hyatt several years ago. It was my first trip to New Orleans and I got a great deal on the hotel because I was a Hyatt employee at the time. The hotel definitely caters to the business/convention traveler. They do have a shuttle to the French Quarter which we used quite a bit. The hotel was fine.
However, for tourists we felt it was too removed from the destinations we wanted to visit. On subsequent trips, I always have stayed in the French Quarter. I just think it's worth being within walking distance to the restaurants, clubs, etc.

I live north of New Orleans and the Hyatt is beautiful, however, if you're interested in the French Quarter, the Garden District and Uptown New Orleans be prepared to take a cab or trolly to these destinations. The Hyatt is in the heart of the Central Business District, where you'll find fun and interesting things to do. The public transportation in the city is pretty good and everyone knows where the Hyatt is, so the cabbies shouldn't have any problems getting you back to your room after you spend the day strolling down Magazine Street. Have a wonderful visit!
