No car needed

I am looking for a 3-5 day get away with my wife that does not reqire a car. Love good food, historic architecture, nice accomodations. Have been to Key West, Charleston, Kennebunkport and enjoyed them all. Would appreciate recommendations.

How far are you willing to go? Honolulu would be fine without a car.

Hmmm...how'd you get to Kennebunkport without a car?

Anyway....Washington D.C,... Epcot/Disney World,.... Las Vegas,... Santa Monica California,... Nantucket.

Santa Fe, although if you're confined to town, you'd miss out on Taos, the Turquoise Trail, Bandelier, surrounding towns... kind of a bummer, actually, all you'd miss. Maybe scratch Santa Fe!

My hometown, Boston. You don't want a car there.

I think it would be easier for you to list a few places and ask if a car is necessary.

Thank you for the suggestions. I had considered Boston and will probably visit Boston later this year, but I am looking for something a bit warmer in April(especially since I'm in a blizzard here in Kansas!) New Orleans looks very interesting. We like to walk everywhere and love old buildings, historic home tours, etc. Is this french quarter the best place to stay and still be able to walk to most of the sights?

Yes, to all your questions about New Orleans. I've planned a three day there myself in late April -- haven't been in ages -- and it meets all your requirements. There have been some recent threads here about hotels and restaurants if you do a search (and if it works). If you're looking for more upscale accomodations, there are a few near but outside the French Quarter -- like Windsor Court or the Ritz-Carlton. But there are a lot of smaller, charming boutique hotels right in the French Quarter, as well as some bigger ones.

I'll throw in a tropical destination:

Harbour Island, Bahamas. Mode of transportation on this 1.5 x 3.5 mile island: Golf cart.
