Anybody been to "Grounds for sculpture" in NJ?
Is it worth a day trip?

We spent a few hours there a couple of years ago. I've been meaning to go again, on a nicer day. Don't know if it gets crowded, but it was pretty quiet on a chilly Oct. day.

I have been several times and love it. Spring and summer is a great time to go. If you are going with adults, make a reservation to eat at their restaurant "Rats" (it's expensive and good). Walk the grounds before dinner and again after, the scuptures are beautifully lit at night. My kids also love to go there and walk around. There are some indoor areas to enjoy as well.

Yes, GFS is a wonderful day trip. It can be crowded on weekends though.

If you don't want to eat at, what I consider to be, a very expensive "Rats," you can sit outside on a lovely tree canopied patio with several water features. This is only open for lunch.

If you go, be sure to peak around fences, hedges and in the woods for "hiding" sculptures.

I agree that dining in "Rats" is one of the most expensive experiences that my brother-in-law ever told me about. He went with another couple and was floored by the prices. (They live in Princeton and go to NYC frequently.) So I would NOT suggest bringing kids there! But the grounds are really interesting.

The grounds are great. There is a really neat water garden area, with ponds, waterfalls, etc. Great on a hot day. It is at the far right of the grounds. Anyway, it is worth a trip, and there is also a snack bar, with limited hours, if you don't want to splurge on Rat's. Or you could drive into Princeton for a bite, afterwards (it's only 15 minutes away).
