I could tell you a place to avoid. (However, I tried to find the web site, and it's down...maybe the place is closed.)
The Guest House International Roosevelt in Keystone is where my husband and I stayed. It's on the corner of whatever the main highway though Keystone is (US 16??) and Cemetary Road. The rooms were fine, but the hotel is across the street from a helicopter pad!! Every morning we would be woken up to the sound of the helicopters reving up. And when they were taking people on tours, they would rev up again every half hour or so. Unless you want to have Apocalypse Now on your vacation, I'd avoid it.
Good luck, it's a beautiful area!

Connie,
I've been looking at hotels in Rapid City for an upcoming soccer tournament and have come across a few things in the Hills that you might be interested in. Evidently there's a nice new Holiday Inn Express in Keystone but don't know anything about it other than what's on the Internet. I do know that the Holiday Inn Express in Deadwood (a shortish drive from Mt. Rushmore) is nice--they even have fireplaces in some of the rooms. My husband has been up there for meetings and said it's the nicest H.I. Express he's ever stayed at. You could go to the Radisson in Rapid City--you're only 1/2 hour from Mt. Rushmore and a couple blocks from an excellent Italian restaurant called Botticelli's. Be prepared--rates are HIGH in the summer. Our so-so Holiday Inn Express in Rapid this weekend is $100.00 per night and that's pretty typical. The two-star Econolodge quoted me $89.00 per night and Days Inn was about the same. No thanks...
