Niagara to Maine

Hello,
we are going on a road trip from Indiana to Maine. Our first stop is going to be Niagara Falls and then we will go to Bar Harbor, Maine. Can anyone suggest a good stop in-between? We will be traveling with a 5 year old girl. We would love it if we could get 3/4 the distance before stopping over. We thought about Boston -- but decided we'd like to stop at a smaller destination and do Bar Harbor another time.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Portsmouth, NH or Kittery, ME (just across the river) would be decent choices.

It's about a 12 hour drive, so 3/4 would be Portsmouth, NH, York/Kennebunkport/Ogunquit, ME.

Portsmouth and Kittery have motels, hotels, inns, etc in every price category. Portsmouth has a real downtown and a very walkable waterfront, a good place to turn a 5 year old loose after a day or two in the car!
