Niagara Falls hotel $ in July

Hi Everyone,
I posted this last night but it got lost in the sea of new messages and no replies yet.
I'm having a hard time finding a reasonable hotel/motel price near Niagara Falls (US or Canada side) for the weekend of July 26-28.
I realize it's "high" season but I'm shocked that even the Econo-lodges want $130 a night.
Does anybody know of cheaper places to stay nearby?
Thanks for any help!

If you'd consider Buffalo there are plenty of places to stay for under $100. It's an easy 25 minute ride from Buffalo to Niagara Falls USA. If you plan to spend most of your time on the Canadian side you may spend time at the border though. Let me know if you'd like some Buffalo suggestions.

I'm sure you're all over this, but make sure the $130 is American not Canadian. Because if it is $130 Canadian, it is more like $95 American. But they are usually very clear if it is Canadian dollars.
I made reservations about a month ago for that same weekend and got a room for about $80 American. (On the Canadian side)

Thanks for your comments. What will the border wait be like at that time of year?
May I inquire where you got that good $80 deal? I want to get an idea what level of accommodation that would buy. Many thanks.

It's very hard to say what the wait could be. Some weekends it's relatively easy to get over the Rainbow Bridge and/or Peace Bridge to Canada with no more than a 10-15 minute wait and other times it could take an hour or more. You can't predict it but usually if you try to enter Canada early in the morning and don't come back until 8 or 9 at night it's not too bad.

San Diego Mom-
The $80 hotel is called Best Inns and Suites. I picked it because of the 'suite' part. It advertises that it is only 1 block from the Falls. We'll see..
