New York with kids

Hi, I will be traveling with my kid to NYC for a couple of days next week. We're definitely hitting a broadway show. My kid wants to see Aladdin but I was wondering if there's anything new that might appeal to a 10 year old. I was told to go the Natural History museum as well. Anything else kid friendly experiences you can recommend? no zoo lol!

Could you give us some information about the young person’s interests? Please?
Where are you coming from? Has the young person ever been in a big city? on a subway? on a ferry? to a museum?
Have you had an opportunity to ask her/him what she/he is looking forward to in NYC?
Are we talking about a math whiz? an American Girl fan? a knight in shining armor wanna-be? a budding gourmet? New York has something for everyone.

Aladdin and The Lion King are great choices as is Wicked, depending on your child and their interest. Not sure if it is the Yankees or the Mets who are home next week but if they've never been to a Major League game, that is a great thing to do. Same with the Cyclones the Mets minor league team, long subway ride to Coney Island from Manhattan but the stadium is easy walkable from the subway, as is Nathan's and the Coney Island amusement rides. In nice weather you cannot go wrong with a boat ride around Manhattan, or a boat ride on the Staten Island Ferry or a visit to the Statue of Liberty. Yes, the Museum of Natural History is a given.

Also not sure how easy it is to get tickets or if they are home next week, but the NY LIberty are awesome and the Barclay Center is easily reachable as many subway lines stop there

Wicked is a show I recommend including in your itinerary, as well as a visit to the Empire State Building.

Here's another thought - the observation deck of the Empire State Building or the Top of the Rock in Rockefeller Center

Walk on the High Line and again depending on the interest level, there are numerous art museums - the Met, MOMA, Whitney, the Frick, Museum of the City of New York (the Stettheimer dollhouse is worth the price of admission alone) NY Historical, Tenement Museum.... and so on.

Thank you to everyone!
I completely forgot about Coney Island, I guess next time. This wasn't our first time in NY, we go quiet often, I was just wondering if there was something new that popped up from last year. I should've been more specific. We've seen most of what was recommended aside from Barclay Center and a major league game! Sucha a great idea for next time, thanks so much!

Yeah! Go to the Cat Walking Tour! If they like animals (and history). I went with my GF last weekend, and it was fun. We're both cat lovers and have a blast. We did the Brooklyn Heights Tour, and Peggy was our guide. The tour ends like a block away from the Brooklyn Cat Cafe, so we got to listen to cool cat history and then play with cats. It's $40 a head, and kids are free. They have tours in Manhattan, too. I'd recommend the BK Heights Tour, though.
