New York Upper West Side Pubs?

Hi!
Maybe some of you NYC experts can help me! At the end of January I'm taking my fiance to NYC and we're staying at the Belleclaire at W77th and B'way. I've been several times, but it will be my fiance's first time. He doesn't enjoy touristy stuff, but we would love some neighborhood pubs or bars just to soak up the local atmosphere and relax. Any ideas close to W 77 and B'Way?

Jill, there are lots of bars in the area, especially on Amsterdam avenue (one avenue away) between 79th and 86th street. A lot of them have a frat house atmosphere--which is great if that's what you're looking for. Are you looking for someplace like that, or something with an older crowd? Is the food or sports scene important? Unfortunately a few more classic neighborhood joints (like All State Cafe) have been lost to high rents in the area

Indeed, there are zillions of bars/pubs on the UWS near your hotel. For more info, check out www.sheckys.com

Enjoy!

(For an upscale cocktail, visit the Stone Rose in the Time Warner Center.)

Thanks for the info. We would be more interested in an older crowd. Anything with a fireplace you can think of? Food and sports are not really important.

I've passed by this place, though I've never been inside http://www.evelyn-lounge.com Can't think of too many bars with fireplaces nearby. There are also some new wine bars and lots of restaurants in the neighborhood(with anything from cheap to high priced food) that are really local scenes.

Across the Park, in the UES, you'll find Auction House, a beautiful, elegant bar that attracts an older crowd. It's on 89th Street, east of 2nd Avenue.

Thanks, guys! Those both look lovely. I have walked by Evelyn Lounge, too. It sounds great...and Auction House is beautiful!
Thanks!
