New York Hotel
Coming to NYC for Veterans Day weekend with my 13-year-old son. Looking for hotel close to theaters. Not finding too many great deals. What does everyone think of these choices: Milford Plaza, 45th/8th at $149; Park Central, 7th/56th at $149; Le Marquis NY, 5th/31st at $139? Last time we stayed at the Millenium Broadway but can't get a good rate for this weekend. Suggestions? I've tried most of the hotel discount sites that I know of. Thanks!

My mother stayed at the Park Central hotel last fall and found it quite adequate. The room was small but the location is good. I've heard good things about the Marquis too.
Have you tried Priceline? Many on this site have posted about the great deals they've gotten (about $100) for good mid-town hotels like the Marquis. Be sure to go to www.biddingfortravel.com for tips on how to get what you want from Priceline. Good luck!

I've never heard of Le Marquis, but don't confuse it with the Marriott Marquis. 5th and 31st is not a convenient location for theatre anyway.
The Milford Plaza is indeed a dump. Friends of mine got talked into booking there for mid December this year and I have since talked them out of it. They were paying $169 for a room there -- no deal for a dump, and when they cancelled -- over two months before they were to go -- the hotel still charged them a $50 cancellation fee. Park Central is not a bad hotel, and the rate you've been offered is very good.

Check out the Drake Swissotel about a week before you leave: www.swissotel.com. They usually drop their weekend rate to $179 about a week before to fill rooms. The Drake is at 56th & Park Ave and is a first class hotel. Broadway is still walkable from there, plus you're in a very nice neighborhood.

5th ave and 31st is not very convenient. Kind of dead area at night. Many hotels that are in that neighborhood were welfare hotels of very old run down hotels (anyone remember the TV ads here for the Collingwood and The Seville???)
Park Central is in an excellent location
