Carlotta: I can't understand that you're talking about eating at some of the most expensive restaurants in town and then you say you're going to go shopping at Macy's? I wouldn't think of going to Macy's if I had a limited amount of time: at least go to Saks, Bloomingdale's or Bergdorf. As long as you are in the Meatpacking District, walk to Greenwich Village and Soho.

I wish I could spend the whole day in Berdorf and Goodman, prada, barneys...but when you have to buy all christmas presents (between my husband and me we have 15 nieces and nephews, parents, brothers and sisters, 2 sons...you have to visit macy's, century 21...to level things up...
DMG you don't say which restaurant/s you would recomend...
Laurele, thank you for the suggestions of Grammercy Tavern, I'll take a look at the website!!

Gramercy Tavern is good and a tad less expensive than Bouley.

Be prepared for a madhouse at Macy's and Century 21. You will need the relaxing dinner!

Eleven Madison has a new chef and it is all the rage these days,I like it but there are better places but if I wee visiting NYC it would be a good choice.Have to agree with Neo-Patrickon Gotham bar a grill as I love this restaurant.Bouley is a very good choice.
Gramacy Tavern is good but not great IMHO,Le Bernadin is very good for seafood with a stuffy atmosphere,Chanterelle is agreat choice for formal downtown dining.Babbo is very over rated,if you go I heard the pasta tasting is good.
Other restaurants that have not been mentioned
Gilt-Located in your Hotel-food and atmosphere are wonderful-may want to check it out on your first night
Joel De Rubichon(spelling)-located in the four seasons-one of the it restaurants for now and they serve late-ask to sit at a table and they have bar dining which looks into the kitchen if you like that.
3.Asiate-located in Time Warner
4.Cipriani-will be a fun older & trendy but just ok food and expensive.
5.Daniel-excellent
6.Alto-good Italian near your hotel but Gilt is better.
.Check out agat.com and opentable.com for reservations

Sounds like you have a fun week planned. My 2 cents for what it's worth: even if you call excatly one month prior to when you want to dine at babbo and you call at 10 a.m. when the phone lines open, and you get through, I will be shocked if you get a seating for earlier than 10 p.m. I don't know why that place HAS to be like that, but it really annoys me. that said, i have been and really enjoyed it. But, for a more special night out, I'd opt for del Posto -- in the meatpacking district and truly an experience. I personally do not love 11 madison or gotham. Gotham's food is delicious, but i feel like it's almost a place you'd find anywhere in a big city. I didn't care for the food at 11 madison. I have to say, my DH and I went to ciprianis in august for my birthday and had the most expensive lunch of our lives there, but we had wonderful pastas and great drinks and really enjoyed ourselves. I just wouldn't make it your "fine dinner" night choice.

There are several great choices in the theatre distict-- Becco for one. I'm sure others can suggest some more.
Have a wonderful trip!
