MomDD, I don't know if Oprah has promoted Tavern on the Green, but it's possible. That sounds like a great idea to go there after the matinee. You could do Serendipity on another day for lunch perhaps. Put your name in and find out how long a wait there is and then walk over to Dylans Candy Bar to pass the time.

Maggi - I actually meant Seridipity <sp> with Oprah.

I think I could do an early lunch there on Wed maybe? Our show is at 2:00 pm.

Why would anyone want to eat at Tavern on the Green? If I was in that neighborhood, I would rather go to Picholine or Cafe des Artistes.

MomDD, the only thing about Serendipity is the wait. You might not want to schedule it if you have a deadline for the theater. I'm basing my recommendations on the two visits I took to New York with my teenaged niece and what she enjoyed. I would have completely different recommendations for an adult weekend.

Proenza, you would really recommend Cafe des Artistes for an eleven year old? Romantic restaurant with nude murals?

I know Thin - that is the thing - I have heard that it is not great but it is one of those "tradition" things - having said that - my dd does not have a clue about that...

She likes cool, hip, she loves good sushi but I know I can never get a reservation at Nobu

Maggi - that is what i was afraid of (the wait)... and thank you for the recommendations - I know you are basing them on an 11 year old - not my dh and I dining there

Actually there is a Nobu on 57th Street and 6th Avenue that is not difficult to get into -

It might be a bit above your price range, but might work for lunch - and is quite near Central Park. A big, New York style place would be quite exciting for your daughter.

If not Nobu, she might like the Brooklyn Diner, also on 57th Street.

How about Buddakhan? I loved it in Atlantic City. Haven't been to the New York location.

I had Korean in New York last week. Most of the Korean restaurants are on 32nd between B'way and 5th Ave. I ate at Shilla which was really good. It was only the second time, I've had Korean, so I am not an expert, but it was good.

What's wrong with Cafe des Artistes? It is a very elegant restaurant. The murals are extremely tasteful. You infer that I am recommending a place akin to the Newton Bar in Berlin.

Get a grip, Miss Thing.

Whatever! Find your own restaurants. I am finished with all of you.

Actually, as a parent, I agree with Thin, some 11 year old girls would really LIKE Cafe des Artistes - it has a kids' idea of fancy glamor - without being stuffy. I've had family brunches there and the servers were lovely with the school-age kids.

If your daughter is adventurous enough for sushi, she'll find something she likes there - the food is not cutting edge but it's definitely better than TOTG! And they are VERY accommodating. Could be a really special mother daughter meal. Check out the menu at:

mp - I think it looks fabulous..remember my dd has been to Europe - naked art does not offend her

I am going to try to get pre-theater reservations for Thursday.

I have reservations at TOTG for Wed night and at Cafe des Artistes for 5:00 pm for pre-theater dinner on Thursday. Best of both - smalzey outside twinkle lights on Wed with a carriage ride and CDA on Thursday!

Thank you I am very excited. I had planned a trip with dd to Europe and had to cancel it for a variety of reasons - I am actually excited about going with her. Wish it was sooner then later.

How about Dave and Busters?! (just kidding)

Not sure if you're still looking, but I wanted to let you know that you can make reservations at www.serendipity3.com if interested.

My dd and I had a meal there a few years ago. Food was good but the highlight for her was getting a table next to Ashley Tisdale from High School Musical.(I had no idea who she was at the time)

I wanted to get a picture of them together but she pulled the pretending to be on her cell phone move so we didn't bother her.

You're right about the Oprah mention, the frozen hot chocolate drink was one of her "favorite things" (the one episode I do watch).

Dylan's Candy Bar is just around the corner which she also enjoyed.
