I am shocked about the Millenium Hilton ... we were just there ... I am assuming you checked various discount websites and by calling the hotel directly ... I did get a better rate by calling the hotel directly .. (only by $10) but still .. they offered me a package which was cheaper than the AAA rate ... But I will say it was lovely and a lot of hotel for the money compared to other hotels we have stayed at in NYC ...

We just stayed at the Wellington 55th and 7th Ave. We've also stayed across 7th Ave. at the Park Central. Both hotels are less than $300 during April, don't know about May. They are very nice, in a good location, and we had a suite (2 bedrooms and a small kitchenette) in the Wellington.

Check the suggestions here and try priceline, but please be aware that if it is a time of high demand and hotel occupancy is high, bidding on Priceline is no guarantee. At peak times there is not a lot of inventory on Priceline.

I was able to get the Drake in the Central Park zone on Priceline for the dates of May 19-22nd, my bid history is on www.biddingfortravel.com. I'm guessing you will have Priceline success at around $225/nt or less.

Thank you for all the suggestions, I appreciate them.
Finally I got the Marriott Marquis,
through a friend that works in travel
for $250.00 as a bargain!!!
So I guess thats the best I can do.

One tip: Do not stay at the Hampton Inn on 24th street. It is in a terrible part of town. The front desk staff is rude and not helpful and the rooms are small. We've stayed at many Hamptons all over the US. This is the worst of the lot. Avoid it. The Hilton New Yorker is the hotel we switched to. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are nice and clean and the location is great. Also Doubletree Times Square is nice. Our friends stayed there.
