A suggestion, Bob: When you ask for directions from Central Park, give a specific location. The park runs more than 3 miles, north to south. Further, it is the dividing line between what it is called the East Side and West Side. Thus, any subway directions (or walking directions, for that matter) will be dependent on where you are.

You're best bet is to take the "C" train to "Port Authority/42nd St."
Then take the M42 crosstown bus heading west (the stop is on the corner of 42nd st and 8th Ave... on the North/West corner i believe).
If you're still looking for the Central Park run, the web address is www.nyrrc.ORG (not .com as listed above)
Lastly, just some "knowlege" to help you navigate better. 5th Ave divides East/West manhattan, with street address numbers heading higher as you head AWAY from 5th ave. So 1 E. 42nd St is very close to 1 W. 42nd street, while 500 E. 42nd Street is very far from 500 W. 42nd Street.
Broadway runs diagonally across the island, from the lower east side to the upper west side.
Enjoy your stay, and feel free to ask any add'l questions before your trip.

Bob--that hotel--it isn't in the "Central Park Area," there isn't really a Central Park Area. Though you will be near the park, the neighborhood is the Upper West Side.
I second the people who are pointing out that it is not a tourist-friendly area at night where you will be. I would not walk around there at night, and I've lived in NY in all kids of places for 30 years. IF you walk around at night, stay on the non-Park side of Central Park, the side where the buildings are. Really, it matters.
Thieves can mug you and run into the park, and they do. Sorry.
And I think if you have to walk cross-town, you're best off on 110th St--see what other people think--the other side streets might be less safe, 110 has more traffic. Also there's a bus on 110.
