New to New Orleans

Traveling to NO for first time end of June. Have reservations at Royal St. Charles Hotel. Is this hotel in a good area, and is it within easy walking distance of the French Quarter as it claims to be? Any info appreciated. Thanks.

The hotel is downtown, one block from the Quarter. It's not a bad location at all although I've read that it's fairly noisy because all of the downtown comings and goings as well as the streetcar which goes by.

I've stayed at the Avenue Plaza Hotel on St. Charles Avenue and I remember a place nearby called the St. Charles, but I can't remember if it was a hotel. Where is the "Royal St. Charles" located? My husband and I walk alot when we're on vacation (we've been to NO three times, so we know a lot of the areas. We've walked through areas at night where we shouldn't have (nothing happened) . . .

If I'm not mistaken, the Royal St. Charles is the new hotel on St. Charles. It's in the first block or two from Canal on the uptown side - just outside of the Quarter.

We were just in New Orleans over Easter and stayed at the Hoter Inter- Continental at 444 St. Charles Ave. We walked by the Royal St. Charles Hotel numerous times, but did not go in and look. It looked like an office high rise building that might have been renovated for a new hotel. By looking in the window it looked liked maybe a small dining area where they may serve a continental breakfast and a small check-in desk. It looked clean, but could not tell much from the outside. Yes, the location is great if you want to be close to the quarter and downtown restaurants. I felt safe walking to the quarter on St. Charles Av. because there were plenty of people out walking. It would be great to hear from somebody who has stayed there!!!
