LA Times reports that traffic in the "horseshoe" is down about 35% since the new scheme went into effect.

This may confirm what we felt after Uber/Lyft were allowed to do pickups a couple of years ago. Suddenly, traffic increased significantly, and the connection between Uber/Lyft and heavy traffic seemed pretty obvious to us at the time.

There is an update on the taxi/uber/lyft "off campus" lot. Due to the inability of these vehicles being able to timely get in and out of the parking lot, leaving arriving passengers stuck in the lot waiting, and stuck on the bus transporting them to the lot, commencing tomorrow at 3 a.m., this lot will be widened by 50% and open for business. Yes, there was a very large area of the lot cordoned off for no reason at all that will be opened with the expectation and hope that it will relieve the problems.

Further to Surfergirl's post, LAX officials now believe at least one of the reasons insufficient space was allocated to Uber/Lyft at the launch of the scheme is because the two companies were under-reporting the number of curbside pickups they were doing. Therefore, airport officials were working with incorrect data in making their calculations. Of course, this also means the two companies were under-paying the taxes/fees they owe to the airport.

Surprise, surprise.

Per local news, the opening of the extra space is calming the situation. We shall see next Friday, when I take H and son to SW @ terminal 1, departure level for a change. BTW for those who haven't been to T-1 since they completed the SW terminal, it's quite nice!
