Depending on the weather, which shouldn't be cold in Novemeber, City Park is great. There are lots of options in the park. We are locals and I took my daughter and her friends to City Park yesterday for her birthday. We did a 50 minute Gondola ride and she said it was, "one of the greatest days of her life". The park setting is beautiful as you glide through the lagoons and under old bridges. There are many trees with moss and we had two black swans following our gondola. We also saw, up close, white swans, pelicans, turtles, a small alligator, cranes and other birds. http://www.nolagondola.com/
Also in the park, there is New Orleans Museum of Art, the Sculpture Garden, Morning Call (for beignets, paddle boat and bike rentals, and several others things.
The park is across the street from some of the cities most beautiful cemeteries in NOLA but I would recommend going into them with a tour guide. There is a unique coffee house called Sacred Grinds that has a patio overlooking the cemeteries (literally, you can touch the tombstone of the graves along the fence). Not creepy but very beautiful place. The Katrina Memorial is also right there.
You can get to the cemeteries, coffee house and City Park using public transportation:
Streetcar/Public Transportation:
If taking public transportation from downtown, take the 48-City Park/Museum streetcar on the Canal Street streetcar line. Depart the streetcar at the end of the City Park Line at Lelong/Esplanade and Carrollton Avenues and walk into City Park.
Connecting service is also available with a transfer to the City Park Line from the St. Charles Streetcar Uptown or via RTA buses. To view bus routes, call the RTA Rideline at 827-RIDE (7433) or visit www.norta.com.

Thanks WorldGallery. That sounds a place for our list!
We have decided on our B&B -Royal Courtyard in Royal Street. It sounds very nice and the district too.
I looked at the NORTA website, it seems accessible to everything and the innkeeper told me that a bus passes the door every 50 minutes.
Thanks again for all the help.
Roll on November!

Well let me just add that you should not miss a Bloody Mary in NO. I had them all over the place and they are incredible. And you can walk around the street with the glass in your hand That's my two cents.

ethne,

Not sure about a bus there because Royal St is tiny, but maybe. There's a bus line on Elysian Fields a few blocks away but it won't take you anywhere you'd want to go.

I don't know that B&B, but that's an interesting neighborhood. If you like wine and want to get a real New Orleans experience go to Bacchanal in Bywater (close by, but maybe get a cab). They have music and food and it definitely is New Orleans funky. Very popular with locals. It's a wine store and there's a certain protocol because you buy your wine and then go outside to find a table (just ask). Sit anywhere there's an open seat and that is probably going to be with folks you don't know. Great music. You'll also be just a few blocks from Frenchmen St. You may also want to sit at the bar at Feelings Cafe about a block away. That's another experience.

Have fun and let us know how it turned out.

Look at Monrose Row, it is a B&B we stay at when we are in NOLA. You can walk to the French Quarter and Frenchmen St easily. Cindy the owner is wonderful and a great resource for the city. The B&B is beautiful. Delicious breakfast.
One of my favorite things to do is the walking tour of the garden district. Go to Preservation hall for a concert. Enjoy it is my favorite city in the US to visit.
