When I saw your message last night I looked in vain for the schedule of carnival parades. Happily, one arrived in the mail today, courtesy of the newspaper of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Here's the line up for the dates of your stay:
In Metairie: (all Metairie parades go mostly down Veterans Blvd): 2/13--Krewe of Atlas--7 p.m.; 2/14-Krewe of Caesar--6 p.m.; 2/15-Krewe of Rhea--1 p.m.; Krewe of Centurions--5:30 p.m. No parades on 2/16 in Metairie.
Mid-City: Parade route mostly on Canal --2/14--Krewe of Ashanti--5:45 p.m.; Krewe of Oshun--7:30 p.m.; 2/15--Krewe of Ponchartrain--1 p.m., mostly on Canal; 6 p.m.--Krewe of Sparta (again, mostly on Canal); 2/15--Krewe of Carrollton--1 p.m.--mostly on St. Charles & around Lee Circle; 1:30 p.m.--Knights of Camelot--same route. NO PARADES ARE SCHEDULED IN MID-CITY ON MONDAY, FEB. 16. In Gretna (across the River), 2/13--6:30 p.m.--Krewe of Cleopatra--(all parades start at Manhattan Blvd. and 11th St.); 2/14
Krewe of Choctaw--1 p.m.; 2/15--Krewe of Alla--12 noon. There also will be three parades in St. Bernard Parish that week-end--but they'd be more distant. The Marriott is a very good place to stay as you can walk to all the mid-city Parades (you'd need a car and a good sense of direction to get to the Metairie parades--though those in Gretna are a bit easier to reach via the Crescent City Connection
I hope you enjoy the parades (remember, you yell "Throw me somethin', Mister" as the floats pass--and hold up your hands). Have fun. Joan

Dear Richard: Sorry about all this repetition--Fodor's just kept disconnecting me and telling me how great things would be sometime in the future. One bit of up-to-the-minute news tho': there will be no Ashanti parade on 13 February. Apparently they didn't post a bond of sufficient size and the city cancelled their parade. You could still pick up Atlas on Veterans Blvd. in Metairie though. Good luck. Joan
