New Orleans - Last Minute Tips!?!

Two more days to my first trip to NO. Has anyone been recently. Any tips? Staying at Royal St. Charles Hotel. Any info on this hotel and is it as close to the French Quarter as they promise? (One Block).

Thanks

It's going to be hot and muggy. Pack accordingly.

Take the St. Charles streetcar down to the Audubon Zoo and check out the Garden District on the way.

Remoulades is a good medium price resteraunt. NOLA is a good expensive place. Both in the quarter.

No cover signs on weekend nights mean way over-priced drinks. Pat O'Briens, home of the Hurricane, is touristy, but so is the quarter. You can relax in their courtyard to get off Bourbon St.

Watch your wallet on Bourbon.

I agree with Kevin about the weather. Temperature all week is projected to be in the 90's with chance of showers each day. A thunderstorm just passed by at lunch, but I can see blue sky now. The Royal St. Charles has only been open a few months. Yes, it is only one block from the Quarter. Very good location. If you want to take the streetcar to the Garden District or Uptown, it stops in front of the hotel. Just step out the front and into the streetcar. NOLA's is very good. It is one of Emeril's restaurants. Actually I like it better than Emeril's. Not as expensive and more casual. If you like oysters, try Acme on Iberville. From the hotel only a 45 second walk, if you don't have to wait for the light to change green to cross Canal Street. Everyone has probably already told you to eat at Mother's, however, most natives don't. Very touristy and priced for them. Their po-boys are o.k. but if that's what your looking for try Johnny's or P&G's, both are within walking distance and provide a better "true N.O. experience". Anyone on the hotel staff should be able to direct you.

Have fun. Once again, it is hot and humid. And in 34 years, no one has ever lifted my wallet on Bourbon Street.

You're gonna love it in New Orleans! It is a most beautiful city with the architecture, the people, and the fantastic cemeteries. That may sound morbid, but wait until you see one! Take a tour if you're there long enough. Pat O'Briens is great - especially the fountains with the fires in them. Enjoy!

Have a lot of fun. Acme Oyster had a little problem today and will probably be closed for awhile (their roof caved in during construction work). Like they say.. ride the streetcar, visit the riverfront, go to Pat O's and have fun.
