Will in NOLA in two weeks. I will be spending my 25 bday there, been there once before for Mardi Gras so would like to experenice what i missed in NOLA that time. Group of Four, any suggestions on nightlife other than tourist bars such as Razoo's and Pat O's. Any bars or clubs uptown worthwhile? Also any suggestions for daytime activities for mid 20-year olds' romantic and non-romantic? Just remember it is HOT!! Today the heat & humidity were killers. So dress for that & try to break up things with a dash into the air-conditioning once in a while.
How long are you going to be here & how are you getting here? Driving gives you the option of taking short trips outside the city. Plantation tours are nice & usually cool. A riverboat cruise is a relaxing way to rest your feet after all the walking you'll do. A good website is www.nolalive.com.

Might I suggest sitting in your air-conditioned room with a bottle of southern comfort until about 10pm when it finnally cools down!

I lived in nola for 10 years when in college grad school. I 've been gone a while but still visit. I agree that you need to leave the quarter at night. Tipitina's, Jimmys, the Maple leaf and Jaqueimo's(resturant with great Louisiana food) are great places to hit uptown at night. Most good plantation tours are a little out of the way. there is a ghost tour in the quarter at night thats fun. Taqueria corona (any location) is great for lunch the original rest is on magazine street. You could spend the entire day shopping magazine street (nonromantic) or just lay around in Audabon Park all day (romantic) The golf course is being redone but the park is stll beautiful and full of people not tooo many) on the St. Charles st. side. let me know if you want any more specific info. I grew up in New Orleans. I've even stayed at the Hilton (If you mean the one at the Riverwalk.) It's an older property, but it's nice. You have a relatively short walk to the Quarter.

Bars that tourists don't go to:
#1 The Balcony Bar on Magazine Street. Get there b/w 5 pm and 9 pm and order 1/2 price pints of beer (70 beers on tap) or $1.50 well drinks.

#2 Mayfair - owned by a crazy but wonderful old lady named Ms. Gertie. There are matress springs hanging from the ceiling, typically decorated with seasonal items (Mardi Gras beads, etc.)

Before you go to Mayfair, have dinner or at least hit the happy hour at Superior Bar and Grill. 2 for 1 margaritas on the rocks or frozen. The two bars are almost next door.

If you're in the mood to be educated, go to The National D-Day Museum or the Contemporary Arts Center - both in the Warehouse District.

As for uptown night places, what about:
Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar and Restaurant
701 Tchoupitoulas St. (504) 523-8995 On Friday night this is the meeting place. A "house margarita" or the "Baja tortilla rolls" will blow you away.If I remember right they have beers from all over the world.Not a real tourist place.

Also for a more interesting 1 drink place, the Carousel Bar in the Hotel Monteleone (Royal St)is different. It is a revolving bar like a carousel & has been there since my parents used to come to town in the 50s.
