When does it start getting really humid in New Orleans? Somewhere I read that the first week in May is about the end of the 'nicest' time to visit. Or is it something other than weather that defines the 'nicest' time? (Yes, I heard that Fall is nice also, but that's not an option next year) Thanks.

It's already pretty warm by the beginning of May, but it's still tolerable. Remember that the week of May first coincides with Jazz Fest which always falls on the last week-end in April and the first week-end in May, so book your hotel now. Some hotels may have minimum stays during this time.

Thanks, Meg. Part of my problem is that I DON'T want to go during the Jazz Festival, and I can't go anytime before it. So, that puts me into the middle of May. I just don't want to get there and feel melted all of the time.

I've been to New Orleans many times in mid-March. The weather is generally very pleasant and not too warm.

It's easier to answer when it is not humid in New Orleans, maybe 2 weeks out of the year we will have less then 50% humidity. Those 2 weeks happen usually between October and December, however, it is now November and we are still at 85 degrees and 90% humidity.

In general our weather is fairly pleasant from October to April. May starts getting really hot. Depends on how often we are getting fronts at the start of spring. It has gotten in the 90's in early May and very very humid. I have seen it fairly cool in May too, say.....60 degrees. So, I wish you well on your trip and hope for nice weather for you, because, that will mean nice weather for me too! Danielle

Planning a trip to New Orleans to celebrate my wife's birthday. It will be our first visit. Appreciate advise-
1. Is Nov. a good time to go?, 2. A great hotel or bed/breakfast to stay. 3. Favorite restaurants that you enjoy. 4. Advice on sights and activities that you enjoyed.

Benjamin, if you're talking about this November (2000) then stay home since you're too late to get good accommodations. Think about February or March and give her a late present!

Ben, it might be kind of late for reservations, but if your heart is set on it you should give it a try! We like the Omni Royal Orleans; it might not be exactly what you originally had in mind, but it is a larger hotel so you'd have a better chance of getting a room. They have suites with and without balconies, and a lovely rooftop observation deck/pool area. If you want "atmosphere", don't worry; you'll get plenty of that wandering around the French Quarter and dining at special spots like Bayona, Mr. B's Bistro, having some Oysters on the half shell at Acme Oyster house, breakfast at Petunia's ... I say go for it!
