New Orleans Hotel & Casino

I am planning to visit New Orleans in October. My interests in N.O. are eating great foods and playing at Harrah's casino.

My question is;
Which is good idea that 1)staying at the hotel that is located near the Harrah's casino and walking to the casino.(maybe at night)
2)staying the hotel in French Quarter or Garden District and go to the casino by taxi or shuttle bus.

I am considering now that Double tree hotel at Canal St. or Quality Inn Maison St. Charles would be good choice...

I live in Japan and have never been to the South. So, any comments welcomed.
I have read some postings in this message board. They are very helpful!

Harrah's New Orleans is a beautiful casino and is well-located near the French Quarter. The DoubleTree is an easy choice over the Maison St. Charles...I'd stay near the casino and then do the Garden District as a day trip since most attractions are an easy walk from the casino area. Other close-by hotels include the Windsor Court, Wyndham Canal Place, Wyndham Riverfront, Monteleone, Sheraton, Marriott, W Hotel New Orleans, InterContinental, International House, and Omni Royal Crescent. All are within 2-3 blocks of Harrah's.

Good luck!!

ps - October is a VERY busy month. Book a room as soon as possible.

This summer we stayed in the French Quarter and walked easily to the casino.

I would suggest staying at the Double Tree. It is directly across the street from Harrah's and there is also an underground tunnel to Harrah's. Very nice hotel. Harrah's has a great buffet and they put on a Mardi Gras Parade in the evening. We walked to the Riverwalk and down Canal to the French Qtr.Mother's Cafe is in the Casino neighborhood, pretty good place for downhome cooking. We just got back from spending the weekend there & can't wait till we go back this fall with our friends. It's pretty safe walking around the area of Harrah's at night. Have a fun time!
