If you are going over the Christmas holidays then the Celebration in the Oaks at City Park is worth seeing. It is a big light display at night & can be viewed by walking through it. They used to also offer a carriage ride but I'm not sure if they still do. There is an admission charge but it would be a relaxing thing to do before heading off for more fun.

Don't miss the Bestoff sculpture garden in City Park. Admission is FREE! It's the best display of "yard art" that you will ever see. The collection is worth about a million dollars. While in City Park, go to the Botanical Gardens. Very peaceful and relaxing, but don't miss the train garden. It's really splendid.

My opinion only but the "park" location taking public transportation at night is iffy where they drop you off (if in the area of the bus stops??). You have a long walk to get to the center of the park and lights. There are bus tours to consider.

Hi,
I live in this old lady of a town and spend a lot of time in city park. I find that the park is a great place to study and read. Also we plan to go the museum of art this week- in fact. I'm looking forward to seeing the new sculpture garden. Celebration in the Oaks is a marvel of lights and creativity and could be walked through-but my word how long would that take? CP is a beautiful park; although, just like the city itself, is a little frayed around the edges. The park does not get any public funds- only private.
The matter of getting to the center of the park from the street car stop is a legitimate concern. City park is the fifth largest urban park in the country -so it is massive.
Have you considered renting a car for a day so you could see the lakefront or river road. Nottaway or Oak Alley plantations would be beautiful during the holiday season. Have fun. Tim

Great website to search for December activities. www.christmasneworleans.com.
Be sure to take in a concert or two at the Cathedral which happen every night from Dec 1-23. Gospel singer Lois Dejean on the 23rd is AMAZING!!
