New Orleans
Have booked to go to New Orleans in July 2006 for my 50th birthday. As you can imagine I have watched events since August with great interest. Where do you suggest the best places to visit, eat, etc. Cant wait to be there.

I think it's impossible to say at this point. It's still uncertain which places will be reopening and when. I would imagine the old line restaurants like Galatoires and Arnauds, along with the new places like August, Emerils, etc. will be fine.
Write back in March or so and we'll try to "update."
The city is far better than it was just a few short weeks ago. Some parts are still devastated but the "tourist-friendly" parts are up and running, even if on a limited basis.
