We have 2 days in DC and have not been there for 10 years. Want to see ML King and have heard the "newsmuseum" is good. Any other things worth seeing that are fairly new? Possible new exhibits? I would have to see Lincoln Memorial and Vietnam Wall. Have seen FDR and would see that again.

Highly suggest the Newseum and Udvar Hazy Air Museum

Udvar Hazy takes too long to get to if you only have 2 days. Have you seen the Museum of the American Indian? Some think the building is more impressive than the collection; I am one of them, I'm afraid. Have you seen the American Portrait Gallery since it was renovated?

The Newseum is very good. I would also check the Smithsonian website for temporary exhibits.

I didnt see the 2 days until after posting. I agree with it being too far away given 2 days.

Be aware that the Newseum is a private museum and charges an entry fee - I think $20 per person (good for two consecutive days). It's worth every penny!

I second the Newseum and personally could have spent two whole days there! The American Portrait Gallery is good and it's open later than most of the other museums I believe. Have fun. I heart DC!

You don't need advance tickets for the Newseum and if you have AAA, you get a small discount. Everytime I'm in DC, I always make sure to go to the American Portrait Gallery and the Renwick. The Corcoran (where you also pay to enter) can have some interesting exhibits so you might want to check their site.

I was very impressed with the Newseum.

I think the Museum of the American Indian worth considering, not only because it has a great cafe (the Mitsitam, which features dishes made from ingredients that are native to the Americas), but also because I found the displays thought-provoking in their unconventional groupings. And the building itself is interesting.

The Lincoln and Viet Nam War Memorials are among my favorites in the city - very moving.

If you have any interest in art, check the National Gallery and Phillips for their temporary exhibitions. Also keep in mind that both have such deep collections that you will likely see many different things in their permanent display areas if its been a while since you've visited. (The Phillips Collection is private, so there is a fee. I was there a few weeks ago, and was stunned by the number of works that I'd never seen before, even though I go there at least once or twice a year!)

Kids are free with paid adults at the Newseum. I think that goes through the summer. Our hotel had coupons for adults for 25 percent off; these seemed to be around town. We had hoped to go during our last day but it didn't work out.

We ended up going to the Art of the Video Game Exhibit going on this summer in the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This museum is between 7th and 9th and F Streets. (Different than the National Gallery right on the Mall). I believe there is also a Civil War photo collection by Matthew Brady on view in one of the museums (maybe National Gallery, next to American Art).

Should warn you that the mall intself is pretty torn up right now with mounds of dirt, large machinery and no access to the Washington Monument.
